XpoLog TxExpo - Transactions Analysis & Monitoring

Viewing and Searching logs is usually a task with the greater purpose of analyzing a Transaction / Flow. A Transaction is a general name for a sequence of steps implemented by end user, robot, application or any other business process. Each and every transaction instance generates log events, errors and information. In most cases the logs and events are located on many machines and application logs. When searching the logs we usually want to collect and correlate only the relevant events to a single transaction instance. Once we do that, it is easy to debug and understand how the transaction was performed. It is also essential to know if errors, faults and time-outs occurred during a transaction.

XpoLog TxExpo is the part of XpoLog Center that assists in automating the transactions analysis and monitoring processes. First it assists in mapping a transaction between different logs, hosts and other sources. Once a transaction structure is detected, TxExpo knows how to collect and organize the log events under the transaction context. For every instance of a transaction, you get a visual map of event flows, a list of the transaction events and a summary of errors that affected the transaction.

You then can then search or monitor each transaction instance according to its unique identifier. Quickly navigate to the flow of a user that was logged in a web application. Analyze IP behavior according to the appearances in the network and security logs. Transactions can also be related to an internal application execution like SOA integration.

How Does it Work?

XpoLog TxExpo is based on XpoLog Center agent less architecture, it means that no agents or instrumentation is required. TxExpo transaction analysis and monitoring is non intrusive and has a very low impact on applications and hardware

TxExpo transactions definitions are done by using the visual transaction definition studio. In the configuration screen, a visual map of a transaction is built and structured by the end user. The relationship between events are defined and health rules are set. Another more advanced way to configure the system, is via an automatic transaction detection engine. By fetching a list of logs and then automatically scanning and detecting the correlation rules,the structure of the data is analyzed and redefined according to the new methodology required.

After mapping transactions, the user can fine-tune the configuration and monitoring rules. XpoLog TxExpo scans the events and isolates each transaction unique event by filters and rules. Extracting the unique data from the event payload e.g. ID, IP, Session, Business transaction id, etc.

Once transaction instances are identified, sets of rules are applied to verify the transactions are valid, well performing and error free. If problems in one of the dimensions are detected alerts are generated and flags are raised in TxExpo consoles. TxExpo also generates reports and statuses in the Dashboard. This enables the user to pin point the root cause in applications, networks or and other devices.

Correlate Logs of any type

XpoLog TxExpo correlates events from multiple sources in real time and on archived data, building a complex transaction map from different types and sources of information. TxExpo can read Web server access logs, extract an IP and track this IP in the application server. TxExpo will continue tracking the transaction even when an IP address changes to a session ID and then written into a database table. End User Logs Correlation and Monitoring

Application management products with end user experience monitoring usually use robots, injectors or probes to simulate transactions. The products measure the response time of each transaction and alert the operation room where there is a problem with availability or performance. The Execution of the transaction causes the data center applications to generate many logs.
